So, essentially simulating the population change of a small society,
without actually instantiating that society. Whay not! You could go
further, perhaps, and simulate other aspects of the society, too. E.g.
Chris L's ideas of social change, where some individual can, through
politics, combat, whatever, make its way to the leadership role. You'd
likely need more than just a couple of variables to do complex simulation,
but it would still be a lot less resource intensive than actually having
to instantiate the NPC's. I like it!
