I've been working, for the past several years, on a new piece of server
code, called 'Key'.  At the moment it is kind of halfway between a MUX and
a talker.

It's written completely in Java (and is about a meg of source code, at the
moment), but isn't _quite_ finished (it needs some more polish, a few
bugfixes, and a lot more documentation), but it  might be well worth
checking out, if you're interested in that kind of thing.
