This is not strictly true. Maintaining security (logical, data, or
operational) for any sort of distributed process where the links
_and_ the leaf nodes are untrustworthy is certainly NOT easy, but is
also, by definition, not impossible. The military have partially
confronted this in their inimitable fashion in DIS (Distributed
Interactive Simulations). You can find some discussion of the area
