There was some discussion about trails of this sort a year or two ago.
I always thought it was a good idea. In the context of NPC's following
"highways", there are some cool abuses possible. Walk back and forth
along certain links a lot, and that could trigger a lot of wandering
NPC's to follow that route. You could trap them, lead them to attack
someone, up the use-counts on your own areas, etc. Great fun!
